š What Are ED and EA?
Early Decision (ED):Ā A bindingĀ application. If admitted, you must enroll. Best for students who have a clear first-choice school.
Early Action (EA):Ā A non-bindingĀ application. You can apply to multiple EA schoolsĀ and are not obligated to attendĀ if admitted.
š Typical DeadlinesĀ (Exact dates vary by school)
ā³ ED & EA Application Deadline: Usually November 1st or 15th
ā³ Decision Release Date: Typically by mid-December
š Who Should Consider Each Option?
šÆ ED is ideal for students who:Ā āļø Have a definite dream schoolĀ and are ready to commitĀ āļø Have strong test scores, extracurriculars, and essays already preparedĀ āļø Are comfortable with the financial commitment (canāt compare aid offers after ED admission)
šÆ EA is great for students who:Ā āļø Want to receive admissions results early but keep their options openĀ āļø Plan to apply to multiple schools and maximize chances of acceptanceĀ āļø Need time to evaluate financial aid and scholarships
ā ļø Special Note: REA (Restrictive Early Action)Ā Some top universities offer Restrictive Early Action, which is non-bindingĀ but comes with limitations:
You cannot apply EDĀ anywhere else
You can usually only apply to one private universityĀ under EA
Examples include Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and others
