ED Deadline: November 1 — ideal for students who consider UMich their top choice.


Comparison of Application Plans:

1. Early Decision (ED) – Binding

  • Deadline: November 1

  • Financial Aid Deadline: November 15

  • Decision Release: By late December

  • Must enroll if admitted and withdraw other applications

  • If materials are incomplete, the application may be moved to RD or deferred to EA (non-binding)


2. Early Action (EA) – Non-binding

  • Deadline: November 1

  • Recommended Financial Aid Submission: December 15

  • Decision Release: By late January

  • Can compare offers and apply to other schools


3. Regular Decision (RD) – Non-binding

  • Deadline: February 1

  • Financial Aid Deadline: March 1

  • Decision Release: Early April

  • Best for students who need more preparation time


 Notes:

  • School of Music, Theatre & Dance only accepts Regular Decision (Deadline: December 1)

  • All application types follow the same holistic review process
