UC Application Timeline, Preparation Tips & Practical Resources

1. Key Dates

2. When to Start Preparing

If you’re finishing 11th grade, here’s what you can begin working on over the summer:

  • Reflect on and organize your academic and extracurricular experiences

  • Start drafting the four UC essays (Personal Insight Questions)

  • Work on improving your English proficiency scores (TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo)

Summer priorities:

  • Write and revise your PIQ essays multiple times — remember, these are short personal responses, not creative writing

  • Preview and explore the UC application platform

  • Prepare transcripts, course lists, and activity summaries

3. Recommended Resources

4. Important Notes

  • UC does not require SAT/ACT scores and does not accept recommendation letters

  • The quality of your essays and activity descriptions plays a major role in evaluation.

  • International students must submit English language scores — take these tests early.

  • You cannot edit your application after submission — leave time for a thorough review.
